Not to be pedantic, but I think you mean doubled, not squared.
Squaring implies there were initially ≈1.4142135 people to begin with.
If a perfect square number of people were in the photo, it would make more sense. Though 1 wouldn't make much sense because I subtly feel you're implying squaring is increasing the value.
