I think this article is incredibly interesting, about her not wanting to be a sex symbol, and to reposition herself not as a sex symbol, she uses sex symbol pics to do so. I imagine it is incredibly complex to manage it. Of course, her father is the one that capitalized on it, and I think did some sort of creepy stuff in relation to her getting famous, but that's another story. I just mean how complex it must be to be talented / athletic, etc and *immediately* have sex appeal and marketing overshadow the original talent.
