This is just my opinion but this sub started going downhill over time for a few different factors. For me the last straw was how the "next door" part became "post pics you find on the internet". Lots of professional gravure images from Japan flooded the sub for a while. The mods could only do so much but the userbase didn't help.
Its like when jordan left basketball.... it just wasn't the same
All subs change as they grow. There seems to be definite brackets of behaviour that Ive seen in small to medium subs like /r/touhou and /r/incremental_games (~1k-4k and ~2k-7k change respectively) and slightly larger subs like /r/manga and /r/Warhammer (~20k-30k and ~15k-22k change respectively). **tl;dr** Times change, shit happens yo.
