The late 1960's always makes me appreciate how quickly a society can change. Think about it, just a few years prior to this, Jazz and Jackson Pollock were still considered radical, and the girls in these pictures were probably wearing bobby sox and knee-length dresses. Free love, counterculture, the hippie movement and feminists burning bras in the streets, all in the space of about 4 years, and all utterly unthinkable to the ultra-conservative WASPy USA at the start of the sixties. The winds of change in America went from 0 to 100 real fucking fast in that half-decade. No wonder people called it a cultural revolution, because that's exactly what it was.
I wish I could time travel back in time to experience this
Sometimes, a nagging part of the back of my mind see pictures of communes and says, "All these people, and not a competent carpenter among them. Maybe the squares were right to call them all bums who were too lazy to get jobs."
