I always had a problem with them describing these series as invisible people. They are more like magical people who everyone ignore, and whatever they do to the universe becomes normal. It doesn't matter if they are invisible because that chick isn't wearing pants, that's odd, unless it's more like what I said, and whatever these individuals do, gets accepted as normal and not a problem for the rest of the world.
