A carefree hedonistic past that probably did not really exist (Eritrea is right across the Red Sea from Yemen). There is a similarly seductive image of a "Berber Girl" that someone pointed out is probably a staged photo of a local prostitute that was marketed to the well heeled tourists of the day. In Europe and elsewhere, tribal societies impose social norms to ensure that men and women are paired off in stable unions because it's simply easier to share the workload that way. Running around with your tits out is a bit problematic in that environment, but industrialized societies have social programs etc. Looks really fun though.
