I agree with you. The only problem I see is that it's a pokemon game, the stories aren't really the point of the games, or I at least I dont think the story is that big in the grand scheme of things in pokemon

Did you even play the games? Sonia had a lot of charachter development. She goes to study the Galar history because her grandmother prof. Magnolia wants her to go, but during the adventure you can see her taking interest in pokemon and at the end of the game she even became the new professor.
