Born in Moulton, Alabama, her family moved to Reno, Nevada when she was four, and then to British Columbia, Canada eight years later. Miss Conrad began modeling at age 17. She worked in the fashion industry in Vancouver, where a local photographer suggested she should pose for Playboy. Named Playmate of the Year in 1989, she married Hugh Hefner in July that year. The couple had two sons before separating in 1999, and eventually divorced in 2010. As Kimberley Conrad Hefner, she had a Playboy newsstand special edition completely dedicated to her. A vegetarian, she has worked for PETA and various animal rescue groups in Los Angeles. "As a model I try to please the camera," Miss Conrad [36D (natural)-24-36] told Playboy in 1988. "I think of sexy things - garter-belts and French-lace bras. I think of shopping for lingerie - and wearing it later."
IIRC, Hef had a huge portrait of that centerfold hanging in the front room of the Playboy Mansion. His kids grew up seeing that every day.
