Well really he was gone for seven years and didn’t see his second son born then they were probably fighting buu for a few weeks and then he was there the whole time after buu’s defeat and when beerus came technically he never left then because he was at bulma’s birthday party celebrating (for the most part fighting beerus though) and then the universe 6&7 tournament came chichi was there watching and then the baseball game she was with him too and when trunks came back they fought black and zamasu with him for a week or two and goku lost his shit when he found out goten and chichi were murdered and right after the future Zeno erased universe 10 I think (whatever universe trunks’ world was in) they held the TOP for 40 minutes so yeah actually he might have been there a lot more often than we think he is
