The actual meaning of Guro, the word itself originates from being a shortened word for Grotesque.
グロ, is a shortened version of グロテスク
Grotesque is supposed to make you feel uncomfortable, sympathetic pity. It's not necessarily gore. - feel free to expand your knowledge by learning about the art of grotesque.
