I visited a gallery in Aspen, CO in April and they had these types of glass sculptures! I wonder if it's the same artist
I figured it out! There's a colorful cubic pillar in the middle and at certain angles the clear sides will reflect the pillar. Such an awesome effect.
I'm not one for decorating my living spaces. But I'd put this somewhere as decoration.
I don't know how he created the defects near the base, but the angles it's cut at allows for total internal reflection of the inner structures when viewed from the forward angles. It acts like a kaleidoscope re reflecting the image of the defects. The defects themselves are like cracks in the glass with gaps on the order of wavelengths of light, much like oil film interference.. This gives them the deep colors.
