What's the generally accepted strategy for these "in order of preference" comments? Are you supposed to label them 1, 2, 3, 4 by preference, with the order from left to right representing each girl? Or are you supposed to label them 1, 2, 3, 4 from left to right, with the order representing your preference? So let's say your ranking for this picture is girl on the far right > girl on the center left > girl on the far left > girl on the center right. Would express that as 3, 2, 4, 1 or as 4, 2, 1, 3?
