That sounds pretty unpleasant compared to a simple blind fold...
I searched a long time for some blind contact lenses before finally finding some. It's almost impossible to get them in the USA. I had a prescription and still couldn't get them successfully ordered. Finally I found [these called the Pocket Darkroom](http://rubberasylum.net/tags/pocket-darkroom/) which I was able to order from over seas. Quality seems good on them, and they are as comfortable to wear as normal contacts. If you have never worn contacts before than don't bother, because you need to learn how to put them in and take them out properly first. The contacts remove 95% of your vision. Bright lights can be spotted through the lens, and if someone holds up fingers in between your eyes and a light bulb you can tell how many fingers are being held up. In dim light with no bright sources they are just about perfect.
