His brainchild is actually both fastenable and UNfastenable, with the fastening referred to as a "zip" and the unfastening referred to as an "UNzip." What you are depicting in this gif is the unfastening, or unzip, and not a zip. Therefore, to answer your implied question, this is not the correct way to zip. I hope that helps.
